The Homegrown Terrorism and Violent Radicalisation act of 2007 (has no teeth)

I've been hearing some buzz around the net about a new bill with an alarming name: The Homegrown Terrorism and Violent Radicalization act of 2007. There are emails floating around claiming that "This bill, in its broad language, will strip us of our free speech and free assembly rights." (You can read the bill in pdf format at http://tinyurl.com/3a3y2z ).

The bill sure sounds scary but if you read the bill you'll see that the only thing that it proposes is the assembly of a bipartisan committee whose responsibility is to investigate the "homegrown terrorism" issue and produce a report containing legislative recommendations. It is important to note that this bill contains no changes to current laws whatsoever, and any recommendation made by the committee could not be adopted into the governmental law s without it going through the typical ratification process.

The reason that the media isn't giving this bill attention is because it's really not that interesting, it's just calling for a committee to perform an investigation. What will be interesting is what the committee recommends to do about its findings. Though, if they propose any extreme laws that propose to curb our freedoms, I guarantee it'll be all over the news. There may be a lot of scum bags in Washington, but there's also a lot of good people watching our back.

Doomsday is coming...

I'm a fan of movies with apocalyptic themes, so I got pretty excited with this trailer for the upcoming Doomsday film by writer/director Neil Marshal who wrote/directed the Descent, one of the best horror movies of 2005. Click on this link to check out the preview.

The naughty tail of the top-less starbucks mermaid.

Have you noticed that the Starbucks Mermaid has two tails??? There's a very naughty reason for that... I found this interesting pop-cultural tidbit on Dead Programmer's Cafe. The story: "How the Starbuck's Siren Became Less Naughty."

Check this mini-MacGyver:

This is just too fucking cool. These kids turn their Wiimote and a rocking horse into a full body game controller. Wish I had one. How much you wanna bet Nintendo comes up with something like this in two years?
